Justin Gary Vs. Jerry Wang

Justin, a Magic Pro Tour champion, has 1 Epic 5K top 8 under his belt already. Jerry has rocked the Yu-Gi-Oh community with 3 Shonan Jump wins, and has continued his TCG success with 2 Epic 5K top 8s including a 5K win in Orlando Florida.

Will see which of these TCG greats will emerge victorious.

The players roll off. “Ohhh… my first die roll win of the day – you start” says Justin. Each player mulligans one card. Jerry 29 - Justin 29

Jerry turn 1
Jerry leads with Lowland Prophet, who immediately gets Dark Leader off the top. Jerry then uses the Prophet to peek at his top card, then plays Naturalist to grab that card. Peeks again then passes.
Justin thinks…. Then plays Battle Mage.
Jerry responds with Food for Thought. “I hate that card!” Justin complains. “I love that card!” Jerry replies.
Justin reveals Death magic, Begone, Djinn, and the No Escape, which Jerry takes.

Justin turn 1
Justin attacks with BattleMage . (Jerry 24)
The Djinn meets No Escape (Justin 32).
Justin draws for the Mage.

Jerry turn 2
Jerry’s Lowland Prophet peeks at the top card.
Build Step – Jerry plays Ring of Speed. “That’s pretty good” Justin groans, “You got it”.

Jerry plays Full Moon for the draw then peeks again with Lowland Prophet.
Justin Begones Lowland Prophet.
Jerry Rings to gain an action and lose 3 Mojo (Jerry 21) then he responds with an execute on Battle Mage. Draws a card and peeks again with the Lowland prophet. “Did you get there?” Justin asks... but the Prophet goes to the bin without drawing another card.

Justin turn 2
Justin plays a veiled card. Jerry plays Gate Keeper.

Jerry turn 3
Jerry activates Gate Keeper and drops down the Dark Leader for free, then activates her for 2 evil humans. Next Jerry drops down the Hunting Raptors. “Anything?” asks Jerry. Justin unveils his Mentalist and draws.
Jerry draws for the Raptors.
Justin sacrifices his Mentalist to Death Magic the Gate Keeper and the Raptors.

Humans and the Naturalist attack bringing Justin down 5 (Justin 27).

Justin turn 3
Justin plays Graft-Steel Thoughtkeeper and immediately breaks her for 3 cards. Both players pass, ending Justin’s turn.

Jerry turn 4
Jerry gets 2 more men, then swings with human after human (Justin 19). Both players pass, ending the turn with both players having an action available.

Justin turn 4
Precursor Virus is stopped by Jerry’s Coming or Going.

Jerry turn 5
The humans come again bringing Justin to 11. Jerry then gets 2 more men with the Dark Leader. They come one at a time bringing Justin to 7.
Both players pass.

Justin turn 5
Justin leads with Train of Thought, bemoans his game position, then plays Storm Giant and draws a card. Jerry draws 2 with Cease Fire.

Jerry turn 6
A human charges headlong into the giant.
With the giant now flipped, the surviving humans keep coming until Justin is forced to issue his surrender saying “Good game”.

Game count : Jerry 1, Justin 0

The players sideboard for Game 2 while exchanging friendly banter.
“You get to play” says Justin. “Again?” sighs Jerry. Well Hopefully I get to play first in the next one.” Justin responds.
Jerry mulls 2 (Jerry 28), Justin keeps.

Jerry turn 1
Dark Leader gets stopped by No Escape (Jerry 31).

Justin turn 1
Justin plays Graft-Steel Thoughtkeeper.
Jerry looks for an answer drawing a card with Walk it Off, then passes.
Justin breaks the Thoughtkeeper for 3 cards. Then Jerry plays Cease Fire to draw two cards of his own.

Jerry turn 2
Lowland Prophet comes into play and then grabs Jerry an Execute off the top of the deck.
The Jerry plays Hunting Raptors, draws, then swings in for 5 (Justin 25).
Justin plays an end of turn Battle Mage.

Justin turn 2
Cat Burglar comes down and then swings for 4 unblockable.
Jerry peeks at the top card of his deck with the Prophet, then takes the damage (Jerry 27).
Battle Mage attacks (Jerry 22).

Both players pass without using an action.

Jerry turn 3.
The Prophet peeks.
Jerry reveals Fire Power and Bolt from the Blue in an attempt to make the Raptor unbreakable and deadly.
Justin Death Magics away his Battle Mage to kill the Hunting Raptors and the Lowland Prophet in response, the draws a card from the Battle Mage trigger.

Jerry drops down the Ring of Speed, drawing a card. He then pays 3 (Jerry 19) and brings down Angel of Death prompting a long pause from Justin. “Ummm… that is unfortunate.”

Justin turn 3.
Justin skips straight to the build step, Ritual of Reanimations and then plays the Cat Burglar.
Justin pays his action with the Cat Burglar to steal the Ring of Speed.
In response, Jerry draws 2 with the Fire Power and then pays 3 Mojo (Jerry 16) to activate his Ring, using the action to play Decay, breaking his own Ring.

Jerry turn 4.
The Angel of Death swings. (Justin to 19).
A Bolt to the Blue brings Justin to 17 and draws Jerry his 7th card in hand.
Jerry passes with an action available.

Justin plays an EOT Tower of Souls, triggering returning Ritual of Reanimation to his hand. Jerry stops the Tower with Coming or Going.

Justin turn 4.
Ritual of Reanimation snatches the Lowland Prophet from Jerry’s discard pile.
Justin plays it, peeks and then attacks with the Cat Burglar.
Jerry Unquenchable Thirsts Justin, who discards Psionic Assault.
Jerry Executions the Cat Burglar and banishes two cards in his discard pile to get his Decay. Justin responds with a Cherish to save his Cat Burglar.
The Lowland Prophet swarms in to join the attack. Jerry goes to 9 from the attack.

Jerry turn 5.
The Angel of Death attacks (Justin 11).
Jerry plays Food for Thought but Justin responds with Stolen Dreams.
Jerry tries a You Lack Faith on the Stolen Dreams.
Justin looks pained. Peeks with the Prophet, then plays Think it Over stopping the You Lack Faith, but allowing Jerry to draw 2.

Jerry plays Naturalist and draws a card.

Justin turn 5.
Justin peeks with Lowland Prophet.
The Cat Burglar attacks and after no blockers are declared, the Lowland Prophet tries to swarm in.
Jerry says, “Swarm on the line….” thinks and then passes (Jerry 2).

Justin plays Succubus triggering the Psionic Assault and Ritual of Reanimation in his discard pile.
“That’s a lot!” groans Jerry. He then Power Plays to stop the Succubus.

Jerry turn 6.
Angel of Death swings in again, bringing Justin to 5.
Naturalist attacks and gets through (Justin to 4).

Jerry plays Revitalize, triggering Naturalist in an attempt to gain 13 prompting a “Woah….” from Justin. Justin stops the Revitalize with Forgotten Wisdom but Jerry still gains 3 from the Naturalist (Jerry 5).

Justin turn 6.
Justin looks at his top card with the Lowland Prophet and then thinks about his attack.

“Are you gonna take a shot?” asks Jerry.
Justin attacks with the Cat Burglar then tries to swarm the Lowland Prophet in after blockers. Jerry slaps down Firespitter. Justin plays No, sealing Jerry’s fate.

Jerry asks Justin if he had the stop all along, or did he just draw it. “I’ll tell you later” Justin replies.
Jerry the groans, “Oh god I should have used the Decay, then I would have gained 3 and been alive”.
“Yup” Justin replies.

Game 3

“You’re first this time” Jerry says.
“I was hoping I’d get a shot at this.” Justin replied.

Justin keeps his hand, Jerry mulligans 1 (Jerry 29).

Justin turn 1.
“Start with that guy” Justin says as he plays the Graft-Steel Thoughtkeeper. Jerry stops it with Power Play.

Jerry turn 1.
Jerry plays Walk it Off drawing a card and then passes. The turn ends with both players having an action available.

Justin turn 2.
Justin Ritual of Reanimations the Thoughtkeeper, plays it and then breaks it to draw 3.
Jerry plays Food for Thought. Justin says “Let me think about this… that is tough” and then plays Think it Over, stopping the Food for Thought, but allowing Jerry to draw 2 cards.

Jerry turn 2.
Naturalist comes down drawing Jerry a card. Jerry passes again with an action open.
Justin plays Psionic Assault triggering his Ritual of Reanimation.
Jerry Fire Powers into two new cards and then the Assault resolves, forcing Jerry to discard Decay and Unquenchable Thirst.

Justin turn 3.
Justin plays a veiled card. Jerry sighs, plays Thrust on his Naturalist to draw a card and then says, “that’s fine”.

Justin passes and Jerry plays an end of turn New World Order triggering Decay and the Naturalist.
Angel of Despair gets unveiled, causing Jerry to discard a Hunting Spider and Firespitter.
Jerry gains 3 from the Naturalist (Jerry 32).
Justin Ritual of Reanimations the Firespitter into his hand.
The New World Order resolves and Jerry drops Ring of Speed.
Justin drops Firespitter, hitting Jerry (Jerry 28).

Jerry turn 3.
Hunting Raptors comes in and draws Jerry a card.
Justin uses Death magic to kill the Raptors and return his Psionic Assault and Ritual of Reanimation.
Jerry expends his Ring losing 3 Mojo (Jerry 25) and plays Dark Leader, followed by Lowland Prophet and then looks at his top card.

Justin turn 4.
The Firespitter attacks, Jerry’s Dark Leader makes 2 humans and blocks with one.

Ritual of Reanimation gets Justin Hunting Raptors.
He targets Jerry with Psionic Assault, triggering Ritual of Reanimation.
Jerry discards Angel of Death and Decay.

Jerry turn 4.
Jerry peeks with the Prophet, makes 2 humans and then swings with a human, bringing Justin to 28. Another human comes, but Justin plays Angel of Grace, gains 6 (Justin 34) and blocks. Jerry saves his human with Cease Fire and draws 2 cards. He then triggers the Prophet again.
Having no luck looking for evil natural cards, he swings with the Prophet instead, bringing Justin to 31.

Jerry activates the Ring, (Jerry 22) plays Dreaded Judge and passes.

Justin turn 5.
The Angel attacks, bringing Jerry to 16.
Justin goes to his Build Step and then plays Precursor Virus.
Jerry thinks and then plays Plague Outbreak, drawing a card and bringing Justin to 30.
“That’s fine”, Jerry says. “That’s what I like to hear!”, Justin rejoiced.
The Firespitter’s death throws bring Jerry to 12. Justin gets 6 Zombies, leaving Jerry with the Dark Leader and Ring of speed.
Justin tries to Ritual the Prophet. Jerry Decays a Zombie . Jerry loses 3 from the Ring to get an action (Jerry 9). Jerry plays Revitalize for no Mojo gain (due to the Ring of Speed), but triggers Decay, banishing 2 natural cards, including the prophet.

Jerry turn 5.

The Leader makes two humans and then Jerry plays Dark Assassin, which is met by Stolen Dream. Jerry’s You Lack Faith wrecks Justin’s Dream. Jerry rings (Jerry 6) to Decay another zombie.

Justin turn 6.
Justin Psionic Assaults triggering the Ritual .
Jerry’s Rule of Law gets him 2 cards and his Decay back.
Zombies attack into humans, leaving Justin with 2 zombies. Another zombie brings Jerry to 4.
The last zombie is killed by the Dark Assassin.

Justin Ritual of Reanimations the Firespitter.

Jerry turn 6.
Jerry gets 2 new humans with the Dark Leader and then passes with an action up.
Justin plays the Firespitter.
Jerry plays Food for Thought saying, “You better have a stop card so I can stop this.”
Justin groans and reveals Forgotten Wisdom, Tower of Souls, Dark Fate, Battle Mage and the Hunting Raptors.
Jerry goes to 1 with the Ring and then plays the stolen Forgotten Wisdom on the Firespitter.

Justin turn 7.
Justin Dark Fates the Dark Assassin, triggering the Ritual of Reanimation.
Jerry kills the zombie with the Assassin, then Executions the Dark Assassin, triggering Decay, banishing Well Worn Path and drawing 2 cards.

Justin plays Cat Burglar and swings for the win. Jerry Bolts, Thrusts, and Walks it Off in search of an
answer, but none come and Justin is victorious.

Justin wins this truly Epic match 2-1.

I'm kind of surprised Jerry didn't Plague Outbreak himself in response to the Precursor Virus - if he'd broken his own human tokens, there would have been a lot less Zombies for Justin.
